OUR HISTORY

Key Milestones & Dates

When we cut the ribbon at the start it’s because their is no end, it keeps going and going. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

In order to feel and understand our success, you must look at our history and our up’s and downs. Sunrise Caribbean just started as a dream, to now having 25+ locations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Hard work truly does pay off, from our first ribbon cutting until now, every new location is a new blessing, situation and experience. Our most recent location shows us that the dream still lives.

Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant

First Location

The divine moment of job loss, that changed our lives.

Founded in 1995, from the idea of Lance Davenport; when his employer Toby’s Good Eats went under, Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant was opened by Lance, Kenneth McFarlane, Morris Kenlock and Everald Robinson. With a modest beginning in a 690 square foot space, at 4286 Kingston Road, the SunRise franchise network has now grown to include 25 locations as the market leader.

Drive Thru Serving Caribbean Food

The drive-through was the main concept we put forward, to make us unique at this time

SunRise Caribbean Restaurant is North America’s first Caribbean drive thru restaurant chain. SunRise continues to innovate offering drive thru convenience at some of its locations as well as great tasting & healthy foods served fast in a pleasant, bright dining atmosphere.

Plan to Market

Sunrise One Starts

Founders son, Marcus Davenport, runs his own Sunrise Caribbean Locations

Caribbean Food has always had a market in Jane and Finch but previous Sunrise franchise owners had given Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant a bad name to the community. As Marcus took over, he understood the importance of connecting with the community, and dispelling any negative rumours that may have been spreading about the brand. Taking it one step at a time, all the right steps were executing to not only lift off Jane and Finch, but also leading him in the direction to replicate that formula to expand a couple times over across the GTA.

GROWTH TO PLAN

Expect the Best

Sunrise is rapidly growing across the GTA, with plans for at least 10 more stores within the next year

With the new energy of Marcus and the guidance of his father Lance; original owner of Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant, not even Covid could stop the upcoming growth. With different generational minds, they have been mixing the old that works with the new that works and still consistently cooking up that recipe for success. With the most consistent Caribbean food now operating for 25 years, the pace has been set, and Sunrise continues to move forward, opening yet another and their newest location in Brampton, by Sandalwood and Kennedy.
